On Oracle web site "Oracle and Sun" page has changed:

Oracle and Sun

There is also a PDF file for downloading... About MySQL it mainly says:

What are Oracle?s plans for MySQL?

Oracle plans to spend more money developing MySQL than Sun does now. Oracle expects to continue to develop and provide the open source MySQL database after the transaction closes. Oracle plans to add MySQL to Oracle?s existing suite of database products, which already includes Berkeley DB, an open source database. Oracle also currently offers InnoDB, an open source transactional storage engine and the most important and popular transaction engine under MySQL. Oracle already distributes MySQL as part of our Enterprise Linux offering.

I do believe that everyone is NOT guilty until proven otherwise... so I'm eager to find out what's cooking in MySQL.

  • Vizitatori 24h 7zile;
  • Top categorii;
  • Vizitatori zi;
  • Gadget Windows: Vizitatori.

Spor programatorilor !

ssh tunnel - to a server by custom port

Linux, Fedora, MySQL Send feedback »

If you don't want to make holes in your firewall because it would looks like "swiss cheese"... you might want to consider using SSH client to create tunnels into desired ports on the target machine.

A tunnel is sort of a link between your local machine and target machine... the application that runs on your machine will not be aware that it is using resources from another machine.

An abstract command is like this:

# ssh -f -L LOCAL_PORT:LOCAL_INTERFACE:DESTINATION_PORT DESTINATION_USER@DESTINATION_MACHINE sleep TIME_TO_WAIT

show variables like 'ft_stopword_file';

For a long time the ft_stopword_file variable was a poorly documented feature.
According to Wikipedia:

stop words is the name given to words which are filtered out prior to, or after, processing of natural language data (text).

Because of the above stopwords are not indexed in a full text index in MySQL.
For those of you seeking the list of stop words you can find the list in myisam/ft_static.c or in the link above you you don't want to dig in the source.

If you see the same output as below, for sure you are using the default/built-in stopwords file.

mysql> show variables like 'ft_stopword_file';
+------------------+------------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+------------------+------------+
| ft_stopword_file | (built-in) |
+------------------+------------+

Unfortunately there can only be one stopword file per MySQL instance and the default one is for English.
Fortunately there are options...

Sam... you are not alone !

I have been ranting about the same thing when it comes to PHP frameworks.

If they exist, they must be really really really simple...

and keep in mind all those acronyms around wkipedia KISS, YAGNI, DRY ...

Oh well... happy coding !
